Book Look Nook is a mock version of a blog I envisioned for my learning project. This blog would ideally be run by teachers or people in the education field who would choose one book for each of the eight featured topics and simultaneously read and discuss the content through interactive posts twice a week. Elementary level classes could follow these posts and keep up with the reading check points and participate in the discussions and activities, either online or in the classroom. All the materials and websites listed on this blog would have been approved by teachers as safe, appropriate, and enriching before being added to the site. Book Look Nook would focus on Canadian content and ensure that at least six out of the eight monthly texts wear from Canadian authors or exploring Canadian content.
Here is how the blog works:
Step 1- Choose a Topic
There are eight topics listed on the header bar of this blog, the class might choose the topic based on the book of the month or by interest in the content. The monthly books would be decided at the beginning of the year so teachers could see all the books that will be discussed and when their individual blog will start.
Step 2- Join the "Class"
The class will join the blog by coming up with a code name to submit activities or questions through so they can become active participant of that months journey along with other classes, students and learners.
Step 3- Choose Your Reading Tools
At the bottom of each topic page is a list of reading and research tools that are available to help the students with their learning. The tools could be anything from apps like OwlEyes and Evernote, to reliable sites to discover more information about the topic of interest (ex: scholastic.com, thekidsshouldseethis.com etc.).
Step 4- Come Visit Again!
There would also be new titles and resources arriving all the time, so there is always a chance for a new adventure!
